But now we in the United States enter more deeply into a state of profound ignorance. We've lost our ability to reason, to debate, to think, to change our minds.

At risk are things that once were precious to us: freedom to choose; education and critical thinking; democratic government; the mythic American dream.

This project is my effort to both grieve these and other losses, and also leave a record of what the world looks like while we let these things slip through our grasp. 

I am seeking funding to support the production of photographic images that will become part of a photography book. I shoot my images on black and white film, which I then develop myself using coffee as the film developer (the so-called "caffenol" process). I do not use AI generative tools, although I do use Photoshop for image editing (cropping; layering; contrast and brightness adjustments). I also use experimental developing techniques to produce provocative images, such as intentionally introducing image flaws during the "fixing" process. These flaws become part of the image, and lead to the rhetorical question, "What if we don't fix this?"
